Philly- Mad Mex

After a long week of grad classes, my cohorts and I like to grab a drink at Mad Mex. We can walk right from class into a world of fun and put the stress behind us. This place has great margaritas – frozen or on the rocks – that come in 3 different sizes that go by the names Little Butt, Sweet, and Big Azz. Mad Mex also carries a variety of specialty margaritas along with a moderate selection of beers. After a couple of drinks, ordering so munchies is always the way to go. They have Pickadippa where you can choose any combination of 3 dips from regular salsa to a pineapple-habanero salsa or cheese dip, guacamole and even hummus. Everything is freshly made and served with an abundance of chips. If you are looking for something more substantial, than look no further to the rest of their menu that includes wings, salads, soups, and Mexican favorites. I personally love the Spicy Mad Mex Burrito made with tofu. It is the perfect combination of spicy that I crave. If you aren’t a tofu lover, you can choose from chicken, steak, shrimp, or portobello. This is an easy spot to go with my vegetarian friends who will be able to find something on the menu while meat eaters will go home happy too.
Nothing is worse than having great food but in a poor atmosphere. Well you won’t find that here. Mad Mex has outdoor seating, which is always a plus on the warmer days and nights. Inside you have the bar and some nice sized booths for larger groups. This place plays funky music and the decor is artistic. Mad Mex is a little but hidden since it sits behind some buildings but is situated between Walnut and Sansom. I highly recommend heading out to Mad Mex for amazing margaritas and a unique menu. And if you are there on a Sunday afternoon, look for my classmates and I after our weekend class just kicking back.
